Syrah
Kazmet Vineyard, Redwood Valley

The grapes for this wine originate from Kazmet Ranch in Redwood Valley which has been farmed organically since 2017. This head-pruned, dry farmed vineyard in the inland warmer reaches of Mendocino County provides concentrated fruit. Aromas of briary fruit, dusty sage, wet asphalt, cream and sandal wood notes. Fleshy and full on the palate with concentrated flavors of boysenberries, cracked white pepper, pine tar, and anise. Soft to medium tannins on the finish with spritely acidity focusing the lingering fruitiness. A small amount of Viognier (7%) was co-fermented on the skins with the Syrah to soften the tannins and add floral notes. Fermented in open top tanks minimizing the extraction of any bitter tannins. Aged for 18 months in French oak barrels (20% new).
