Pinot Noir Rosé
Handley Estate Vineyard, Anderson Valley
Made with organically farmed grapes from our Handley block 5A Pinot Noir, Wadenswil 2A clone planted in 1990. This block has a divided double lyre and wide rows. It was designed for large yields which slows sugar accumulation and preserves acidity, perfect for sparkling wine and refreshing low alcohol rosé. We picked the fruit cold and held the whole clusters in the press for four hours to extract color and flavors from the skin. The wine was settled for two days, then it was racked off solids to a tank to begin fermentation. Approximately one third through fermentation it was racked to older 500 L puncheons to allow stirring on the lees creating roundness on the palate. Malolactic fermentation was avoided to preserve fresh fruit flavors, and the wine was sterile filtered before bottling. Refreshing with restrained alcohol but plenty of fruit focused by a crisp finish. Exuding essences of narcissus, fresh strawberries and cream, and cucumbers. Full on the palate with lively
mouth-watering acidity, showing flavors of watermelon, strawberries, lime, and wet stone.
